Cleveland picked up a win at Cleveland Stadium 1980, bumping off the New York Yankees, 7-2. Pitcher Steve McCatty was a major reason the Spiders emerged victorious. McCatty got the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 9 hits and walked 1 over 9 innings. McCatty allowed 2 runs. With the win, Cleveland upped its record to 40-40.

In the bottom of the second, Clayton Elliott hit a 2-run home run. The 19th home run of the season for the Cleveland first baseman put the Spiders on top, 2-0.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Elliott told the Cleveland Observer.
