Pirates Clonk Expos, 6-3
|
Rennie Stennett impressed in the 6-3 Pittsburgh win over Montreal. Stennett, who led the NL in slugging percentage with .537 last year, was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Timnothy Milner converted his 2nd save in 2 tries. The win puts Pittsburgh at 31-47.
Ron Oester drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate for Pittsburgh. The 26-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Antonio Atayde. It was his 28th RBI of the season.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Pittsburgh manager Eddie Komrska.
