Cardinals Win Thriller, 5-4
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals get after it.
St. Louis picked up a win at Busch Stadium 1973, bumping off the Chicago Cubs, 5-4. Pitcher Ken Holtzman was a major reason the Cardinals emerged victorious. St. Louis pitcher Bert Roberge got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tom Niedenfuer got the loss.
The Cardinals procured the win, in large part because of left fielder Mike Davis. In the bottom of the 12th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring double.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Holtzman said.
Chicago now has a 5-game losing streak.
