Everything was working for Sid Fernandez today at Doctors Ballpark. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The fastball was working.

In an unforgettable performance, the 19-year-old Fernandez fanned 15 Locos and sparked the Merida Olas to a 4-1 victory over Acapulco. He left Locos hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.

"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Merida manager . "His location and command were really something."

In addition to collecting 15 strikeouts over 9 innings, Fernandez allowed 3 hits and 6 walks in a superlative outing.

"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Fernandez said with a smile.

Presently Fernandez has a 4-2 mark in 9 starts with a 2.46 ERA. He has given up 61 hits in 87.2 innings, struck out 133 and issued 67 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .196 batting average against him.
