Tigers Nip Senators, 3-2
|
Detroit Tigers starter Juan Marichal turned in a sterling performance against the Washington Senators, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Detroit, at 89-46, is 20 games up in the Doubleday League Wilson Division.
Stan Hack was the walk-off hero for Detroit. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Tigers first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring double to send the teams home.
"Every loss hurts," said Washington manager Rich Hamilton. "But this was a tough one."
