Royals Deal Spiders 9-3 Loss
|
The Kansas City Royals defeated the Cleveland Spiders, 9-3, at Cleveland Stadium 1980. Kansas City right fielder Gene Richards had a superb performance. He went 4 for 5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Orel Hershiser snagged the win in relief. In 4 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit. He's now 2-0 on the season. The loss makes Cleveland 4-4.
It could have been a different outcome for Kansas City, had it not been for Alvin Davis, the 21-year old first baseman . Davis contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Kansas City up, 4-3.
"We need to keep playing good baseball," Davis told the Kansas City Observer.
