Rangers Deal Brewers 10-7 Loss
|
With catcher Ernie Whitt leading the charge, the Texas Rangers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 10-7, at Milwaukee County Stadium 1976. Whitt went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Fernando Valenzuela, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-0. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 9 hits and 7 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 4. Kent Tekulve earned save number 2 this season.
The Rangers got a big at-bat from first baseman Steve Balboni. For the game, Balboni went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. In the top of the fourth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Texas a 3-2 lead.
"We came out aggressive," said Rangers manager Zach Redpath. "We came out swinging the bats."
The defeat makes Milwaukee 5-4.
