Spiders Get Past Seattle for 4-3 Win
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Cleveland Spiders got the win.
Cleveland rode a decent outing from starter Vinny Mendoza to victory over the Seattle Mariners. The final score was 4-3. Mendoza, now 6-6, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 3 runs. Picking up the save was Omar Huaman. He's now 5 for 6 in save chances.
Cleveland used a clutch hit from Clayton Elliott to get the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Spiders ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Cleveland manager Sean Torgerson.
The Spiders improve their record to 43-44 with the win over Seattle.
