The New York Mets weathered an outstanding game by San Diego third baseman Joel Youngblood to topple the Padres, 4-3. Youngblood was 2 for 2 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The win gives New York a season record of 44-43.

The Mets relied on catcher Terry Kennedy for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.

"Feels good to get the job done," Kennedy said after the game.
