Red Sox Edge Twins, 6-5
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Boston Red Sox eventually prevailed.
The Boston Red Sox did just enough to sneak past the Minnesota Twins, 6-5, at Fenway Park 1976. Boston first baseman Willie Aikens, in particular, had a standout performance. The winner was Luis Albo in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Tom Hall took the loss.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Red Sox grabbed the lead when Aikens hit his 18th home run of the season. The 2-run home run off Tom Hall made it 6-4, Boston.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Aikens told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
Boston goes to 58-28. The win puts them 9 games up in their division.
