Cincinnati's Matthews Reaches 2000 Hits
|
Cincinnati's Gary Matthews entered the record books today as he collected hit number 2000 at Wrigley Field 1979.
"I am proud of this. Not too many players reach this level. You have to be around quite a few years and you have to get a lot of hits," Matthews said after the game.
On his milestone day he went 1 for 5 as the Reds won 5-1 over the Chicago Cubs.
During his career Matthews has played in 1871 games, batted .270 with 196 home runs and 2000 base hits.
