Big Day for Ray in 8-4 Orioles Win
|
With third baseman Johnny Ray leading the charge, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Oakland Athletics, 8-4, at Oakland Coliseum 1969. Ray, who is tied for 9th in the AL in triples with 3, went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Kyle Monroe, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-10. He pitched 8.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 0. The slumping Athletics have lost 6 straight.
In the first inning, Ray had a run-scoring double for Baltimore. It was his 16th double of the season and put the Orioles on top, 1-0.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Ray said. "We did a good job of that today."
