Host Expos Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2
|
The Seattle Mariners have a critical edge over the Montreal Expos in the World Series, thanks to the veteran arm of Tommy John.
John, 38, put on a dominant performance at Olympic Stadium today, leading the Mariners to victory, 5-1, in a pivotal Game 5. Seattle is now one game away from the World Series, leading the best-of-7 series by a margin of 3-2. Montreal will need to win both remaining games to advance.
It could have been a different outcome for Seattle, had it not been for Mike Stenhouse, the 23-year old center fielder . Stenhouse contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Seattle up, 3-0.
"I like our mindset right now," said Seattle manager John Healy.
Game 6 is set to be played Wednesday in Seattle. The scheduled starters for the game are Mark W Davis for the Montreal Expos and Steve Busby for the the Seattle Mariners.
