Yankees Hammered by Winfield, Drop Game 2 to Expos
|
The Montreal Expos relied on the hitting of right fielder Dave Winfield to get by the New York Yankees, 4-3, in Game 2 of the World Series today. For the game, Winfield went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The clubs are now tied, 1-1.
Had Dale Murphy not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Murphy hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Expos.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Montreal manager Rich Callaghan.
The next game is scheduled for Friday in New York. Slated to start are Adrian Devine for Montreal and Rick Honeycutt for New York.
