Almost There: Montreal On Cusp of WS Triumph After 3-2 Win
|
The Montreal Expos went into extra innings against the New York Yankees but ultimately moved to within one game of the Round 3 today. The Expos downed the Yankees at Yankee Stadium 1976 by a score of 3-2. Montreal right-hander Ed Halicki was named player of the game after a solid outing in which he threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. The win gives the Expos a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Donald Elliott came to bat in the top of the 12th. Facing New York pitcher Camilo Aprgio, he hit a 1-2 screwball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Montreal on top, 3-2.
"I like our moxie," said Expos manager Rich Callaghan.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Dick Drago for Montreal and Blake Green for New York.
