Cardinals Prevail, 3-1, Over Cincinnati
|
In a low-scoring affair between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds, pitcher Tom Candiotti was the difference between victory and defeat. The St. Louis right-hander earned accolades in the 3-1 Cardinals win. Candiotti, the winner, moves to 7-5. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up no walks. Larry Andersen was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 22 save opportunities.
The outcome hung in the balance with no one down in the top of the eighth. With the bases empty and Cincinnati trailing 2-1, Jim Anderson flied out. It was a big out for St. Louis pitcher Larry Andersen.
With the win, St. Louis upped its record to 46-46.
