Orioles Edge Past Athletics, 4-3
|
The Oakland Athletics got a superb performance from right fielder Ruppert Jones, but the Baltimore Orioles still won the game, 4-3. Jones went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. The last-place Athletics have lost 8 consecutive games.
Baltimore took a 4-3 lead on Dwight Evans's 12th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Evans hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Oakland pitcher Sammy Stewart shaking his head.
"We bring energy to every game," said losing manager Joe Schanken. "But it's got to translate into wins."
