Late Rally by Cardinals Locks Up 7-4 Win
|
Jim Gantner had a big hand in St. Louis's 7-4 triumph over New York. He rattled off 3 hits in 4 at-bats, scoring 1 times and knocking in 3 runs. St. Louis pitcher Robert Arnold got the win. He's now 1-0. Matt Adams was tagged with the loss. Larry Andersen was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 18 of 25 save opportunities.
Otis Nixon was 1 for 4 with a walk for St. Louis. The 23-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring walk off Matt Adams. It was his 43rd walk of the season.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said St. Louis manager Nathan Hall.
The Cardinals go to 49-50, putting them 4th in the National League East Division.
