Almost There: New York On Cusp of WS Triumph After 2-0 Win

Tom Seaver pitched a gem to help the New York Mets escape with a tight 2-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in a low-scoring World Series contest today. The right-handed Seaver threw 9 innings of shutout ball in the win, just enough for the Mets on a day when their offense dried up. New York now leads the best-of-7 series 3-1.

Seaver allowed no earned runs on 3 hits over 9 innings for the Mets. He walked 0 and struck out 11.

"I was determined to go the distance," said Seaver.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Shea Stadium in New York. The scheduled starters for the game are Dave McNally for Baltimore and Tommy John for New York.
