Minnesota Beats Oakland, 3-1
|
The Minnesota Twins got a stellar performance from pitcher Mauricio Valdivia, who handcuffed the Oakland offense en route to a win, 3-1, at Oakland Coliseum 1969. In 8 innings, Valdivia surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Stephen Fuller, credited with the save, is now 16 for 23 in save opportunities.
Minnesota took a 3-1 lead on George Foster's 18th home run of the season. The solo home run came off Oakland pitcher Doug Bird in the top of the eighth.
"This was a tough loss," said Oakland manager Joe Schanken. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
Minnesota has a 3-game win streak, while Oakland has lost 3 in a row.
