Phillies Top Chicago, 5-4
|
Philadelphia Phillies starter Jim Beattie pitched a strong game against the Chicago Cubs at Veterans Stadium 1971, leading the Phillies to victory, 5-4. The win puts Philadelphia at 55-48 this season.
The Phillies relied on second baseman Paul Molitor for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the 13th, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Molitor said.
