White Sox Fall Short, 4-3, at New York
|
The New York Yankees withstood an impressive performance by Chicago center fielder Mitchell Page to defeat the White Sox, 4-3, at Yankee Stadium 1976. Page was 4 for 5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Steve Shields earned the win for New York. He lasted 8.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 11 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 7-7. Manny Sarmiento, credited with the save, is now 6 for 9 in save opportunities.
Willie Wilson hit a run-scoring double off Bruce Kison in the bottom of the fifth, which put the Yankees in front, 3-2. In addition to the double, Wilson had 1 single, while going 2 for 4.
"This kind of win will certainly make our fans happy," Wilson told the New York Gazette.
