Giants Topple Astros, 6-1
|
The San Francisco Giants picked up a win at Candlestick Park 1993, knocking off the Houston Astros, 6-1. Starting pitcher Ronnie Sims was a big reason why. Sims, now 5-12, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. The Astros, now 50-58, have lost 4 in a row.
San Francisco second baseman Kevin Howard contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a sinker into left field for a 2-run single. It was his 114th hit of the season and put the Giants ahead, 2-0.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said San Francisco manager Rick Brandt.
