Phillies Reel Off Another Win
|
The Phillies grabbed a win, 3-2, at Wrigley Field 1979, overcoming a fine effort from Chicago pitcher Oscar Sanchez. Sanchez went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. Philadelphia reliever Tom Hume was the winner. His record is now 7-12. The losing pitcher was George Durham. Jim Kern, credited with the save, is now 2 for 5 in save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Philadelphia, had it not been for Andy Ramirez, the top prospect . Ramirez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Philadelphia up, 3-2.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Philadelphia manager Arlo Zimmerman.
The second-place Phillies have won 6 straight games.
