Hrbek Powers Yankees Offense
|
The 6-2 New York win over Detroit was due largely to Kent Hrbek. The Yankees first baseman went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. The win gives New York a season record of 59-53.
Hrbek contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for New York in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Hrbek took a fastball from Edwin Ramirez and stroked the double to right. His 29th double of the season allowed the Yankees to leap in front, 4-2.
"We did a lot of things right," said Hrbek.
