Expos Collect 8-5 Win Over Phillies
|
The 8-5 Montreal win over Philadelphia was due in large part to Garry Templeton. The Expos shortstop went 2 for 5 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. The winner was Frank Tanana, who threw 142 pitches over 10 innings. The left-hander was charged with 5 runs on 6 hits. The first-place Expos, at 67-48, now lead their division by 5 games.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With two out, Templeton hit a fastball from Jim Kern for a 3-run home run. The Expos, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Templeton.
