Perez Slugs Spiders to 8-6 Win
|
Behind a solid performance from center fielder Salvador Perez, the Cleveland Spiders defeated the Texas Rangers, 8-6. Perez went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for the Spiders. Gary Williams earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 3.1 innings. His record is now 2-1. The Spiders go to 58-60, putting them 4th in the American League East Division.
Cleveland used the timely hitting of Gene Tenace to capture the win. The catcher socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Spiders ahead, 7-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We came out aggressive," said Spiders manager Sean Torgerson. "We came out swinging the bats."
