The Kansas City Royals got a superb performance from pitcher Frank Viola. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Detroit. The Tigers won the game, 3-2. Viola threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball. The win puts the Tigers at 55-63, while the Royals drop to 52-63.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, an error by the Royals allowed the Tigers to score the winning run.
Parrish called the win "a team effort."
