Phillies Lose By a Run at Montreal, 5-4
|
Starting pitcher Frank Riccelli pitched well enough to help the Montreal Expos beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-4. Riccelli went 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 5, and struck out 5. His record improves to 13-6. Rollie Fingers converted his 8th save in 9 tries.
Kirk Gibson dealt the Phillies a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Montreal leading 4-1, Gibson, who is on pace for 104 RBI this season, hit a 3-1 slider for a run-scoring single.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Montreal manager Rich Callaghan. "It's usually not just one thing."
The losing streak for Philadelphia has now reached 4 games.
