Red Sox Win at California, 3-2
|
Boston and California duked it out and the Red Sox came out victorious.
The Boston Red Sox got a stellar performance from pitcher Victor Rose, who handcuffed the California offense en route to a win, 3-2, at Angel Stadium 1979. Rose picked up the win for Boston, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 16-2. Gary Pickert was credited with the save, his 8th in 9 tries.
Boston used a well-timed hit by Scotti Madison to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
In comments to the Boston Today, Madison admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
With the win, Boston pushed its record to 78-41.
