Brewers Edge Past Angels, 4-3
|
California got a terrific performance from pitcher Ray Fontenot, but it wasn't enough to beat the Milwaukee Brewers. Milwaukee won the Angel Stadium 1979 contest, 4-3. Fontenot threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Milwaukee reliever Andy Messersmith picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Dennis Lamp shouldered the loss. Today's win puts Milwaukee at 61-65, while California falls to 73-52.
Milwaukee needed the clutch hitting of Mike Schmidt to notch the win. The third baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Brewers on top, 4-3. For the game, Schmidt had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We found a way to get it done," Schmidt said.
