Reds Prevail, 7-5, Over Atlanta
|
Darrell Evans made an impact in the 7-5 Cincinnati win over Atlanta. Evans, who finished 4th in the NL in on-base percentage with .389 in 1979, was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The winning pitcher was Ron Guidry. He's now 2-0. He went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits for the Reds. Danny Boone earned the save for Cincinnati, his 1st.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Jesus Alfaro? The Cincinnati shortstop had a bases-clearing double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Reds on top, 5-2. For the game, Alfaro had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Alfaro told the Cincinnati Citizen.
Atlanta drops to 7-5.
