Texas Beats Baltimore, 2-1
|
The Texas Rangers got a magnificent performance from pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, who muffled the Baltimore offense en route to a tight 2-1 Rangers win at Memorial Stadium 1954. Valenzuela, now 12-6, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Kent Tekulve earned his 15th save in 19 chances.
Had Lenny Dykstra not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Dykstra hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Rangers.
Dykstra told a Texas Citizen reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
The victory puts Texas at 51-76.
