Braves Lose By a Run at New York, 3-2
New York picked up a win at Shea Stadium 1979, toppling the Atlanta Braves, 3-2. Pitcher Rick Jones was one of the reasons the Mets triumphed. Matt Adams converted his 15th save in 26 tries. With the win, New York pushed its record to 65-65.

New York took a 3-2 lead on Garry Maddox's 18th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Maddox hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Atlanta pitcher Charlie Lea shaking his head.

"We had a good game plan," Jones said, "and we were able to execute it."
