New York Beats Minnesota, 3-2
|
The New York Yankees topped the Minnesota Twins, 3-2, in American League action at Metrodome 1983. The standout performance belonged to New York pitcher and St. Joseph, Missouri, native Paul Moskau. Moskau got the win, improving to 11-8. He allowed 4 hits and walked 2 over 8.1 innings. Moskau allowed 2 runs. New York raised its record to 68-64 with the win.
New York used the timely hitting of Kent Hrbek to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
In postgame comments to the New York Gazette, Hrbek said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
