Phillies Prevail, 4-2, Over Atlanta
|
Philadelphia picked up a win at Veterans Stadium 1971, toppling the Atlanta Braves, 4-2. Pitcher Jim Beattie was one of the reasons the Phillies triumphed. The winner was Philadelphia reliever Tom Hume, now 9-14. The loser was Charlie Lea. Jim Kern, credited with the save, is now 4 for 7 in save opportunities.
Philadelphia took a 4-2 lead on Tony Pena's 3rd home run of the season. The 3-run home run came off Atlanta pitcher Charlie Lea in the bottom of the seventh.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Philadelphia manager Arlo Zimmerman.
Philadelphia has a 4-game win streak, while Atlanta has lost 4 in a row.
