Athletics Come Up Short at Toronto, 2-1
|
The Toronto Blue Jays racked up a win at Exhibition Stadium 1977, bumping off the Oakland Athletics, 2-1. Thomas Boyd, who started for Toronto, pitched effectively for his team. Boyd, now 16-9, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. With the win, Toronto raised its record to 88-57.
The Blue Jays grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second. With no one out, Juan Monasterio, who led the AL in triples with 10 last year, hit a solo home run off Doug Bird, putting Toronto in front, 2-0. For Monasterio, it was his 10th home run of the season.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Oakland skipper Joe Schanken.
