Stennett Slugs Pirates to 8-5 Win
|
Rennie Stennett impressed in the 8-5 Pittsburgh win over Atlanta. Stennett, who finished 2nd in the NL in OPS with .922 in 1980, went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Larry Edwards got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. Robert Alexander closed it out for his 3rd save.
Stennett had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 2-2 knuckleball from Wilbur Wood, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Pirates a 8-5 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Stennett.
"Feels good to get the job done," Stennett said after the game.
The Braves, now 12-8, continue their sluggish start.
