Smith Helps Red Sox Win, 5-3, with Pair of Homers
|
The winning streak continued for Boston.
The 5-3 Boston win over Texas was due in large part to Reggie Smith. The Red Sox right fielder went 2-2 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Tom M Carroll, who went 9 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, Jeff Burroughs hit a 2-run home run. The 6th home run of the season for the Boston designated hitter put the Red Sox on top, 3-1.
"Winning breeds more winning, I guess," said Burroughs.
Early on, the Red Sox, at 17-4, have excelled.
