Mariners Win at Oakland, 5-4
|
Bobby Bonds was instrumental in his team's 5-4 triumph over the Oakland Athletics. The left fielder went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Seattle Mariners. The winning pitcher was Steve Busby. His record is now 1-0. The right-hander went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits for the Mariners. Nick Bowditch nailed down his 1st save.
Bonds had a timely hit for Seattle in the top of the sixth. With Oakland trailing 4-1, he turned a 1-0 changeup into a grand slam home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season, making it 5-4, Seattle.
"We take it day by day here," said Bonds, "and today was a good one for us."
The win gives Seattle a record of 1-3.
