Late Magic Gets Oakland 6-3 Win
|
Starting pitcher Danny Darwin pitched well enough to help the Oakland Athletics beat the Cleveland Spiders, 6-3. Oakland is off to a sluggish start, getting just their 6th win in 31 games.
Had Scott Fletcher not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Fletcher hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Athletics.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Athletics manager Joe Schanken. "This one was nice to get."
