Giants Topple Reds with Late Rally
|
The San Francisco Giants turned back the Cincinnati Reds, 5-4, at Riverfront Stadium 1970. Keith Hernandez, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. San Francisco pitcher Dan O'Brien got the win. He's now 1-0. Tony Guzman was tagged with the loss. The loss puts Cincinnati at 2-1.
Hernandez had a timely hit for San Francisco in the top of the eighth. With Cincinnati trailing 4-3, he turned a 1-1 fastball into a 2-run triple. It was his 1st triple of the season, making it 5-4, San Francisco.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Cincinnati manager Jonathan Powles said following the tough loss.
