Minnesota Slaps 9-2 Loss on Tigers
|
The Minnesota Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers, 9-2, in American League action at Tiger Stadium 1980. Minnesota pitcher Marcos Ortega had a standout performance. Ortega, now 5-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. With the win, Minnesota upped its record to 21-14.
Matt Cooper, the 30-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. Cooper contributed a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put Minnesota up, 4-2.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Cooper told the Minnesota Observer.
