The Los Angeles Dodgers had to overcome a fine effort from New York pitcher Benjamin Ochoa to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Shea Stadium 1979. Ochoa went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. The win belongs to Steve Foucault in relief. His record improves to 4-2. Matt Adams took the loss for New York. Rod Scurry earned save number 1 this season.
Los Angeles used the timely hitting of Dick Davis to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Dodgers on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We did a lot of things right," said Davis.
The victory gives Los Angeles a record of 25-12.
