Giants Upend Phillies, 7-4
|
San Francisco and Philadelphia duked it out and the Giants came out victorious.
Despite a great performance by Philadelphia left fielder Andre Dawson, the San Francisco Giants defeated the Phillies by the score of 7-4 at Veterans Stadium 1971. Dawson went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Tim Costello got the win, improving to 2-1. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 10 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3.
San Francisco used the bat of Tyler O'Dell to capture the win. The third baseman jacked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Giants ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"We'll grab a cold beverage tonight and go after another win tomorrow," O'Dell said.
San Francisco now has a record of 18-18 with the win.
