The Minnesota Twins got a superb performance from pitcher Mauricio Valdivia, but the Baltimore Orioles still won the game, 4-3. Valdivia threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Baltimore reliever Dave Patterson picked up the win to move to 1-0. Stephen Fuller suffered the loss. Baltimore, with the win, sits at 11-25.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Baltimore pinch hitter Dave Parker, facing Stephen Fuller, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Orioles the 4-3 win.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Baltimore manager Ted Day. "It's usually not just one thing."
