Mariners Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Brewers, 4-1
|
The Milwaukee Brewers got a sterling performance from pitcher Gary Lucas, but the Seattle Mariners still prevailed, 4-1. Lucas threw 7 innings allowing 1 run. The winner in relief was Nick Bowditch. He is now 2-3. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Seattle raised its record to 25-18 with the win.
Seattle used the clutch hitting of Mike Stenhouse to capture the win. The pinch hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mariners ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a big one.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Mariners manager John Healy, "I like our chances."
