Mariners Best Tigers in Pitching Duel
|
The Seattle Mariners topped the Detroit Tigers, 2-1, in American League action at Kingdome 1977. The game was highlighted by the performance of Seattle pitcher Tommy John. The win puts Seattle at 28-18 this season.
Juan DeLiza drove in one run for Seattle. The 26-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Dennis Martinez. It was his 2nd RBI of the season.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Seattle manager John Healy.
