Phillies Take Nail-Biter Over Braves
|
The Philadelphia Phillies bested the Atlanta Braves by a score of 6-4, with third baseman Lou Whitaker getting the main credit. On the day, Whitaker was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Phillies. The Phillies, now 27-20, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
Philadelphia won the game in the bottom of the 13th inning. With one out and Charlie Lea on the mound for Atlanta, catcher Jody Davis hit a dramatic 2-run home run, bringing Phillies fans to their feet.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Whitaker told the Philadelphia Observer. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
