Yankees Drop Royals, 2-1
|
Starting pitcher Steve Shields was a major factor in the 2-1 New York Yankees triumph over the Kansas City Royals. Jeff Cornell, now 2-1, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. The win puts New York at 30-23 this season.
In the bottom of the 18th, David Hall had a chance to deal the knockout blow. And he did, punching a run-scoring walk to center off Kansas City pitcher Dave Tobik.
"I still think this team can play even better," Hall told the New York Gazette.
